The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, called for deeper collaboration with the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) to strengthen procurement capacity and promote specialised skills development in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Dr. Adedokun made the call during a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Prof. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, at the Fund’s headquarters in Abuja.
While acknowledging PTDF’s significant contributions to the development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, the BPP Director-General described the Fund as the “lifewire of the industry.” He noted that PTDF’s interventions, including the establishment of its institutions in Kaduna and Port Harcourt, demonstrated its vision and commitment to developing indigenous capacity in the sector.
He commended the progress recorded by the Fund in strengthening its procurement processes and emphasised the need for sustained collaboration between both institutions, particularly in developing specialised procurement expertise for the oil and gas sector.
Dr. Adedokun also expressed appreciation for PTDF’s support for the 2025 BPP procurement training programme, which facilitated the training of approximately 600 procurement officers from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the country. He appealed for the Fund’s support for another phase of the programme, which was expected to benefit additional procurement professionals on Levels 8–10.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Prof. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, expressed appreciation to Dr. Adedokun for the Bureau’s continued cooperation with the Fund. He reaffirmed PTDF’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the BPP in support of initiatives that promoted standardised procurement practices in Nigeria.
The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthening human capacity, promoting professionalism, advancing local content, and supporting a more efficient, transparent and effective public procurement system in Nigeria.
