The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) was established to institutionalize the development of local manpower in Nigeria's oil and gas industry. Initially, the government mandated international oil companies to employ and train Nigerians to eventually manage the industry independently. PTDF's purpose is to provide specialized training for Nigerians in engineering, geology, science, and management, ensuring a skilled and competent workforce. Additionally, PTDF upgrades local institutions and promotes research and technology adaptation, fostering the use of local materials and expertise in the industry.
