At the ongoing Season of Rahaman 5.0, the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) continues to spotlight legacy, leadership, and lasting impact within Nigeria’s energy landscape.
Representing the Executive Secretary, Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, the Deputy General Manager, Audit Division, Dr. Steve Agboyinu, who chaired the occasion, delivered a compelling reflection on the life and contributions of Emeritus Professor Omar Moruf Rahaman.
The Executive Secretary described the event as more than a celebration of age, but of impact, legacy, and intellectual excellence, highlighting Emeritus Professor Rahaman’s foundational role in shaping PTDF’s human capacity development architecture.
He also highlighted his contributions, notably his role as one of the architects of the Overseas Scholarship Scheme and his efforts in institutionalising transparent, merit-driven selection processes
and advancing specialised postgraduate programmes at Obafemi Awolowo University which have helped in building generations of energy professionals and strengthened Nigeria’s academic and research ecosystem.
As the theme “Celebrating Excellence at 80” resonates across the session, it underscores a defining message: true excellence is measured by sustained relevance, influence, and the ability to build systems that outlive individuals.
