The Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, alongside the Management Team, today conducted an inspection visit to the Centre for Skills Development and Training (CSDT), Port Harcourt.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Secretary noted that the Centre was established to equip individuals with prerequisite technical skills required for the oil and gas industry, not only in Nigeria but across West Africa. He stated that:
“This Centre has an important role to play in ensuring the development of the necessary skills and manpower required to bridge the huge gap, especially at the lower and middle cadre levels within the oil and gas industry.”
The CSDT Interim Management Team Head, Mr.Uche Ikoku in his presentation highlighted the objective, vision and current status of the Center.He noted that upon completion, the facility would provide a platform for technical and vocational training, as well as certification programmes aligned with global oil and gas industry standards.
He further explained that although the facility is structurally completed, additional furnishing and equipment are still required to make the Centre fully operational.
Following the presentation, the Executive Secretary and the PTDF Management Team embarked on both a virtual and physical tour of the facility. Impressed by the standard and scope of the project, the Executive Secretary described the facility as:
“Excellent and beyond my imagination. I want to commend all my predecessors who were able to make effort to put in place, this facility”
He further assured that every effort would be made to ensure the Centre is fully furnished and ready for optimal functionality.
The visit highlights PTDF’s continued commitment to developing industry-ready manpower and strengthening technical capacity within Nigeria’s energy sector.
