The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is in partnership with the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) to review the Teachers guide, Training Manual and the Curriculum of six subjects in the senior Secondary school level.

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) is responsible for curriculum development and The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) relates essentially to the promotion of science and technology by its mandate which has lead to the partnership between the two Agencies in improving the capacity of Teachers of the basic Subjects that leads to a career in the oil and gas industry. Prior to this time PTDF’s interventions have been concentrated at the tertiary level of education.

PTDF has kick started the process of contributing in building a firm foundation for the teaching and learning of science and technology-based subjects through the partnership by reviewing the Teachers guide, Training Manual and the Curriculum, they were last reviewed in 2013.

The reviewing Team is made up of a compendium of professionals and critical stakeholders drawn from University and School Teachers, Teacher educators from Universities and Colleges of Education, as well as core content specialist in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, ICT and English Language.

One of the challenges identified over time is the inability of the teachers to effectively deliver on the curriculum which affects the performances of the students. As a result, PTDF is targeting the senior secondary schools with a focus to improve the performances in the foundation subjects that leads to a career in oil and gas industry to get them prepared for the oil and gas sector when they get into the university.
