25 beneficiaries of the PTDF Welders Training and Certification Programme(WTCP) have successfully concluded their six months Post Training Attachment(PTA) at the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited. The Trainees were exposed to practical hands on experience in industrial welding, maintenance and construction as well as Health, Safety and Environment.

PTDF has under a new strategic direction adopted need-based interventions, and value-based collaboration with all stakeholders in the oil, gas and allied industries in the implementation of its capacity building programmes. In this regard, the PTDF Post TrainingAttachment was conceived as a stop-gap intervention to ensure that beneficiaries of PTDF trainings are introduced to practical, on-the-job exposure upon conclusion of their training to ensure that the skills acquired during such trainings are not lost due to redundancies.

The Executive Secretary, Dr.Bello Aliyu Gusau, while speaking at the close-out ceremony, said that the essence of the training is to prepare them for the industry by providing a platform for practical on the-job-training. “The PTA programme affords players in the industry like KRPC the opportunity to engage and utilise the skills and services of these trainees in the maintenance and development of their plants”.

He commended the management of KRPC for their partnership and support in engaging the trainees in their facilities to further perfect their training skills. He said that other refineries and private sector organisations are also partnering with the Fund in the PTA programme “We are currently engaged with all the Refineries in addition to some key private sector organizations in the PTA programmes. We currently have 19 trainees in Warri Refinery and six as first batch in Port Harcourt Refinery, in addition to the 25 we are graduating today”.

He urged the Management of KRPC to consider taking on another batch of trainees from PTDF for the PTA programme and the possibility of employing the trainees“we will solicit that the KRPC considers the trainees for full time engagement as direct employees or in conjunction with the Refineries and other partners”.

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board(NCDMB), he said will assist in the employment of the PTDF trainees by having their data in the Industry Joint Qualification System(JQS).He assured the trainees that the experience gained in the course of the six-month Post Training Attachment will make them attractive to the employers of such skills so long as they are listed on the JQS.

“Please be informed that the PTDF is working closely with other key industry partners to ensure you are considered for full time engagement through the industry qualification System (JQS) being hosted and managed by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) wherein your full data and qualification will be listed for consideration by industry stakeholders for employment”.

The Managing Director,Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited, Engr. Ladenegan Adewale Solomonwho received the PTDF team thanked the PTDF for recognising KRPC as a partner and pledged the continued support of KRPC towards the actualization of PTDF drive to train people that will take up responsibilities in the industry in future.
