American University pays courtesy visit to PTDF to foster stronger ties
A delegation of the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), a private University owned by the state based in the UAE paid a courtesy call to PTDF. The purpose of the visit according to Prof. Hassan Hmadan Al Alkim, the president of the Institution who led the team is to enhance the cooperation between institutions in Nigeria and specifically PTDF being a capacity building Agency in the Oil and Gas Industry.“We have good department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering, we thought that in this visit we will discuss and see how we can cooperate in this field; the American University of Ras Al Khaimah is willing to allocate seats for students coming from Nigeria, who would like to study Petroleum and Chemical Engineering”. Prof. Hassan said that PTDF stands to benefit in terms of discounts based on the number of scholars sent to the institute and a further percentage discount will be given to students with a very good GPA.
The General Manager, Legal and Secretarial Services, Mr. Ahmad Balarabe who received the delegation on behave of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Bello Aliyu Gusau expressed his delight for their visit especially as they are representing an Educational Institution, which is the area of concern for PTDF. He went further to say that the visit by Prof. Hassan and his team is very timely as the Executive Secretary is trying to streamline the scholarship programme, adding that scholars are no longer permitted to get admission from institutions themselves and present to the Fund for sponsorship.
“We are now going to select the universities ourselves; top universities that really have the cutting edge technologies that will add value to whatever we are doing” he said. Mr. Ahmed reaffirmed the commitment of PTDF towards capacity building in the oil and gas industry.
“As you might know, PTDF is the foremost statutory body responsible for capacity building in the Oil and Gas Industry. It is our responsibility to aid competences that will work, provide services and develop technologies in oil and gas sector. It is in this respect that we have sent many of our compatriots to different countries abroad including the UAE studying various fields that has to do with oil and gas sector of the economy” he said. He urged the delegation to forward a formal letter of intent from AURAK to enable the Fund under study their proposal and make suitable decisions.
